Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has shared his mixed emotions following his first-ever Grammy nomination, celebrating the recognition but maintaining that awards do not define his musical journey.
The Nigerian singer earned the nomination for his collaboration with Davido on the track “With You,” which has been shortlisted for Best African Music Performance at the upcoming 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
Taking to his fan page on Instagram, Omah Lay expressed excitement over the achievement while clarifying that such accolades hold minimal importance to him personally.
He shifted the spotlight to his collaborator Davido, whom he praised for his unwavering friendship and support during challenging periods. “I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but fr fr I don’t give a sh!t about awards. Yeah but I really want it for OBO! he is the realest friend I’ve had in while, he stood by during my hardest times,” Omah Lay wrote.
Meanwhile, Davido, who has yet to clinch a Grammy despite four previous nominations — including two in the Best African Music Performance category since its introduction in 2023 — continues to be one of the most influential figures in Afrobeats.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
