The Nigerian Army confirmed that the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, during an internal security operation. According to Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Musa Yahaya, the soldier was deployed to help de-escalate a tense situation when he was suddenly attacked. The assailant struck him on the head with a heavy log, inflicting severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation quickly escalated, with other soldiers at the scene stepping in to neutralize the attacker and recover the soldier’s weapon. The injured soldier was rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
The Army revealed that the deceased was buried according to Islamic rites in a solemn ceremony attended by his commanding officers and colleagues. In its official statement, the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army expressed deep condolences to the soldier’s family and vowed to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
