A Magistrates’ Court in Kano State has issued an order for the arrest of Talban Warawa, Abubakar Idris, who serves as the village head of Warawa Local Government Area, following accusations that he sexually assaulted his housemaid, an act alleged to have led to her pregnancy.

Prosecutors explained that the traditional ruler had earlier been granted bail by the court.

Despite this, he failed to attend six consecutive hearings to respond to the charges brought against him.

His lawyer, Barrister Hassan Danjuma Balarabe, pleaded with the court to allow more time, promising that the accused would appear at the next session.

After reviewing the situation, Magistrate Hafsa Yahaya voiced her displeasure at his repeated absence and then ordered the Commissioner of Police to “immediately arrest and produce him before the court.”

The case has now been postponed until December 3 for further proceedings.
