Train Accident in Plateau: Tricycle Rider and Passenger Killed at Railway Crossing

A devastating accident occurred on Wednesday at Phototek Junction in the Abattoir community of Jos South Local Government Area, where a moving train collided with a tricycle, killing two people and injuring two others

Two individuals were injured when a tragic accident occurred involving a passenger train traveling from Bukuru to Jos and a tricycle that attempted to cross the tracks. Eyewitnesses reported that despite loud horn warnings and signals from railway personnel, the tricycle operator ignored them and tried to rush across.

Mary Philip, who witnessed the event, recounted that the train’s horn was sounding continuously, but the rider still proceeded, resulting in a fatal collision that claimed the lives of the driver and one passenger.

Mohammed Ibrahim, another observer, noted the incident happened around 11 a.m. and confirmed that two female passengers were hurt and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were removed from the scene, leaving the community in mourning. In response, residents of the Abattoir area have urged authorities to enforce stricter safety measures at railway crossings and raise public awareness to prevent similar incidents.

Officials are now considering updates to safety infrastructure, including the installation of barriers and warning systems at vulnerable crossing points.
