Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have returned to training after boycotting a session earlier this week due to unpaid bonuses and allowances. The dispute, which threatened to disrupt preparations for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon, has now been resolved following intervention from team officials and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
On Tuesday, 23 players reportedly refused to train in protest over outstanding payments dating back to previous tournaments. The move sparked concern among fans and stakeholders, especially with a high-stakes match looming.
Team captain William Troost-Ekong took to social media to reassure supporters, stating:
“Issue resolved. We are together and, as before, focused on the games ahead.”
He later added that all financial matters had been addressed and the team was united in their mission to represent Nigeria with full commitment.
Following the resolution, the Super Eagles resumed full training at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, Morocco. All invited players, including Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, and Ademola Lookman, participated in tactical drills led by head coach Eric Chelle.
With the dispute behind them, the Super Eagles are now focused on their semi-final clash against Gabon. A win would move them one step closer to securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
