NSCDC Honours Kano Man Who Returned Over ₦20 Million Forgotten in ‘Keke Napep’

In a remarkable display of honesty and integrity, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has honoured a Kano man, Nura Abdullahi, who returned more than ₦20 million that was forgotten in a commercial tricycle, popularly known as keke napep.

The incident unfolded when Abdullahi, a volunteer staff of the NSCDC in Kano, discovered a bag containing the huge sum of money left behind by a co-passenger. Rather than keeping it, he immediately sought out the rightful owner, identified as Alhaji Mustafa, a businessman from Katsina State who had travelled to Kano for a transaction. Abdullahi explained that he was able to trace Mustafa by using the last dialed number on his phone, which the businessman had earlier borrowed.

On Friday, November 14, 2025, the NSCDC Zone 12 Commander, Assistant Commandant General Amos Abiodun-Taiwo, presented Abdullahi with a formal commendation letter in Kano. The recognition was approved by the Commandant-General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who described Abdullahi’s action as a rare act of professionalism and integrity. “He is a good ambassador of his family, the NSCDC, and the entire country,” Abiodun-Taiwo declared, stressing that such positive acts deserve as much attention as negative news.

The story quickly went viral, with Nigerians across social media praising Abdullahi’s honesty, especially at a time when economic hardship might tempt many to act otherwise. His decision to return the money has been hailed as a powerful reminder that integrity still thrives in society.

By honouring Abdullahi, the NSCDC has not only celebrated his courage but also sent a strong message that good deeds deserve recognition. His action reinforces public trust in the Corps and sets a shining example for others to emulate.
