Nigerian Man Sentenced in U.S. for Sexual Extortion Scheme Linked to Death of 20-Year-Old

In a tragic case that has drawn international attention, 27-year-old Nigerian man, Imoleayo Samuel Aina, also known as “Alice Dave,” has been sentenced to 72 months (six years) in federal prison, five years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $3,250 in restitution by a U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The sentencing follows Aina’s involvement in a sexual extortion scheme that led to the death of 20-year-old Jack Sullivan, a college student. Prosecutors revealed that Aina, operating under the alias “Alice Dave,” targeted Sullivan online, coercing him into sending explicit material. When Sullivan resisted further demands, Aina allegedly threatened to expose him, a pressure campaign that ultimately contributed to Sullivan’s death.

Federal investigators traced the scheme back to Nigeria, where Aina was arrested and extradited to the United States to face charges. He pleaded guilty to offenses including sexual exploitation, extortion, and cyber-related crimes.

The case underscores the growing dangers of sextortion scams, a form of cybercrime where perpetrators manipulate victims into sharing intimate content and then threaten exposure unless demands are met. U.S. authorities have warned that such schemes are on the rise, particularly targeting young men and women through social media and dating platforms.

During sentencing, the judge emphasized the devastating impact of Aina’s actions, noting that his exploitation directly contributed to Sullivan’s death. The restitution order is intended to support Sullivan’s family, though no financial penalty can undo the loss.

Law enforcement agencies continue to urge vigilance online, stressing that victims of sextortion should seek help immediately rather than suffer in silence. The FBI has reiterated that reporting such crimes early can prevent escalation and save lives.

This case serves as a sobering reminder of the human cost of cyber exploitation and the importance of international cooperation in bringing perpetrators to justice.
