Fayose issues burial directives on his 65th birthday

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose marked his 65th birthday by publicly issuing burial directives, declaring that his remains should be handed over to the Ekiti State Government when he passes.

On November 15, 2025, Fayose released a reflective video message in which he spoke candidly about mortality and legacy. He emphasized that “death is certain for everyone” and revealed that he had already documented his burial instructions. According to him, the Ekiti State Government must take full responsibility for his burial rites, with a timeline of up to four weeks to organize the ceremonies

Fayose directed his children and family members to comply with whatever plans the sitting government puts in place at the time of his passing. He stressed that affection should be shown to people while they are alive, not only after death.

His unusual birthday message drew attention across Nigeria’s political space.

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, congratulated Fayose, describing him as “a valuable friend and brother who never pretends about where he stands on issues”.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State also sent warm wishes, praising Fayose’s contributions as a two-term governor and his role in the state’s development

Ayodele Fayose’s 65th birthday message was less about celebration and more about legacy. By entrusting his burial to the Ekiti State Government, he reinforced his identity as a leader closely bound to his people and state. His directive has sparked conversations about mortality, governance, and how public figures choose to be remembered
