Enugu Police Arrest and Arraign Woman for False Accusation Against Husband

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of Chisom Okonkwo, a 29-year-old mother of two, for falsely accusing her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, of defiling their daughters. The shocking case has stirred public reaction, especially after investigations revealed the allegations were fabricated.

🔍 The Allegation and Arrest

In August 2024, Chisom raised an alarm, claiming her husband had sexually assaulted their two daughters, aged two and five. She later filed a formal complaint with the police in October 2025, alleging not only abuse but also threats to her life if she spoke out.

The case quickly gained traction online, prompting widespread outrage and calls for justice. Ozioma was arrested and detained pending investigation.

Following Chisom’s claims, the police ordered medical examinations of the children. The results showed no evidence of sexual abuse, contradicting the mother’s accusations. Further investigation revealed that Chisom had coached the children to make false statements, allegedly to “punish” her husband over ongoing marital disputes, including his smoking habit and domestic disagreementsTELL Magazine.
Ndukwe said consequently, having failed to prove her allegations beyond reasonable doubt, Chisom Okonkwo was found to have def@med her husband and provided false and misleading information to the Police. She was thereafter arraigned before the Magistrate Court of Enugu State on a two-count charge of defamation and giving false information. She was granted bail by the court, and the case was adjourned for further hearing.

⚖ Legal Action and Charges

Chisom was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Enugu in early November 2025. She faces multiple charges, including: Defamation of character, giving false information to the police, public misconduct

One of the charges reads:

“That you, Chisom Okonkwo, did defame the character of one Okonkwo Ozioma by shouting in public that he defiled your two daughters, exposing him to hatred, contempt, and ridicule”.

The Enugu Police Command emphasized the seriousness of filing false reports, especially those involving minors and sexual crimes. Authorities warned that such actions not only damage reputations but also undermine genuine cases of abuse.

Public reaction has been mixed—some expressing outrage over the false accusation, while others called for psychological evaluation and counseling for the family.
