Davido reflects on his journey during 5ive Alive Tour

Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken a moment to reflect on his remarkable journey—from sneaking out of university to perform at local gigs, to now headlining sold-out stadiums across Nigeria during his 5ive Alive Tour. His story is not just one of musical success, but of bold choices, relentless hustle, and the power of believing in your dreams.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Davido recounted a pivotal moment from 2011 when he left Babcock University without permission to perform in Ibadan during the Lynxxx and Friends Tour. He wrote:

“In 2011 I skipped school to perform in Ibadan. Asa, Peju, B Red and Sina picked me up from Babcock and we drove to join the Lynxxx and Friends Tour. I had no idea it was going to air on Soundcity, and when my pops saw it, I got in so much trouble.”

That performance, though risky, marked the beginning of a career that would redefine Afrobeats and inspire a generation of artists.

Fast forward 14 years, and Davido returned to Ibadan—not as a rising star, but as a global icon. His performance at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium during the 5ive Alive Tour drew thousands of fans, including Governors Seyi Makinde and Ademola Adeleke, underscoring the cultural significance of the event.

“Fourteen years later, we destroyed the stadium. The 5ive Alive run across Nigeria has been one for the books,” Davido shared.

The tour, which spans Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, has become a celebration of music, unity, and the evolution of Afrobeats.

🌍 Impact Beyond Music

Davido’s journey is more than a personal victory—it’s a testament to the growth of African music on the global stage. His ability to fill stadiums both at home and abroad sets a new benchmark for African artists, proving that local roots can lead to international success.

One user, @iam_veeberry, commented, “This is what it means to stay true to your roots while giving back to the culture that raised you. Big respect for inspiring the next generation to dream big and build home first.”

Another fan, @Seyi_vibez, wrote, “From skipping school in 2011 to selling out stadiums now, that glow-up is everything. Building home, giving back, and still rising. ATL better be ready for the energy on November 20th!”

Similarly, @dntfwangelx said, “That’s a full-circle moment right there, from getting in trouble for chasing the dream to selling out stadiums living it. Mad respect .”

Many others described Davido as a source of inspiration for young Africans chasing creative dreams.

He’s proof that consistency pays,” a user wrote, while another added, “Davido’s story is not just about fame, it’s about faith, discipline, and never forgetting where you started.”
