Ndigbo are no longer spectators in the Nigerian project- Minister Dave Umahi dismisses calls for Biafra under Tinubu’s administration

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has declared that Ndigbo are no longer spectators in the Nigerian project, urging Igbo people to abandon calls for Biafra under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing federal road projects along the Enugu–Anambra corridor, Umahi emphasized that President Tinubu has taken deliberate steps to integrate the Southeast into national governance. He argued that the grievances which once fueled separatist agitations are being addressed through inclusivity and infrastructural development.

According to Umahi, President Tinubu’s government is implementing an inclusive agenda, ensuring that Igbo leaders and professionals are represented at the federal level. He noted that the exclusion of Ndigbo from mainstream politics had long been a source of resentment, but under Tinubu, that narrative is changing.

The Minister stated: “Ndigbo are no longer spectators in the Nigerian project. The issues that gave rise to Biafra agitations are being tackled. With Tinubu’s inclusive government, there is no need for separatist calls.”

Umahi, who is among prominent Igbo leaders backing Tinubu’s administration, also urged the Southeast to focus on supporting ongoing development projects rather than pursuing secessionist ambitions. He highlighted the massive road and infrastructure projects currently underway in the region as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to equity and national unity.

Local observers note that Umahi’s remarks are part of a broader effort by the federal government to counter separatist sentiments, particularly those linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). By stressing inclusion and development, the administration hopes to win the confidence of the Southeast and reduce tensions.
