A tragic accident has struck Ogoja in Cross River State, where a mini bus carrying passengers plunged into the Ogoja River, leaving five people dead.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was traveling along the Ogoja–Ikom highway when the driver reportedly lost control near a bend close to the river. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the water, trapping several passengers inside. Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene, attempting to rescue those onboard, but five lives were lost before emergency responders arrived.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, noting that rescue operations were immediately launched to recover the victims and tow the submerged vehicle. Survivors were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.
