The Miss Universe 2025 competition took a dramatic turn during a sashing ceremony in Bangkok when Fatima Bosch, Miss Mexico, was publicly insulted by a top pageant official, triggering a walkout by fellow contestants and a wave of outrage across social media.
The controversy unfolded on November 3 during a livestreamed event at the delegates’ hotel. Nawat Itsaragrisil, a Thai businessman and executive within the Miss Universe Organization, reportedly confronted Bosch over her absence from a sponsor shoot earlier that day. In a tense exchange, Nawat allegedly called her a “dumb head,” a derogatory term meaning “fool” or “empty-headed”
Bosch responded calmly, saying, “We respect each other here,” before walking out of the event. Her departure was followed by several other contestants who stood in solidarity, creating a visible disruption in the ceremony
Shortly after the incident, tension escalated as several contestants staged a walkout. Even the 2024 Miss Universe winner, Victoria Theilvig, reportedly left the building in solidarity.
The Miss Universe Organisation has now released a statement addressing the situation:
“Together, we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of respect, safety, and integrity for all participants, staff, and stakeholders.”
